A song written by Bob Dylan, it was strongly “inspired” by “Palms of Victory” (also called “Deliverance Will Come” and “The Way-worn Traveller”), a song written in 1836 by the Rev. John B. Matthias.

The first released version by his Bobness (the 1963 version - track #1) was on the triple LP “Bootleg Series Vol. 1-3” in March 1991.

The first released version was by Odetta in September 1964 (on her “Sings Of Many Things” LP), followed by Hamilton Camp in October of the same year on his “Paths Of Victory” LP.
