This is a project I’ve been working on for weeks.

The idea is to reconstruct the 13 original Byrds LPs with cover versions.

They are presented in the chronological order of the recordings (which means that disc 1 is Preflyte, although the LP was released in July 1969, between Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde and Ballad Of Easy Rider).

Various Artists – Byrds Recovered – 01 – Preflyte

Original LP = Together Records ST-T-1001 (USA July 1969)

The Byrds’ first recordings – recorded 1964 – covered

1. The Lettermen - You Showed Me (3:01)
2. Peter Holsapple & Chris Stamey - Here Without You (2:38)
3. Joe Lawless - She Has A Way (2:28)
4. The Inner Corners - The Reason Why (2:36)
5. Mike Quinn & James Noriega - For Me Again (2:17)

"Father Of Night" is the last Bob Dylan "swarm" for the time being. That series will be continued later.

Next will be a 16 albums project that I've been thinking of doing and working on for a long time.

Watch this space.

Various Artists – Father Of Night  - 16 Great Versions

A song by Bob Dylan, from his October 1970 “New Morning” LP.

At 1 minute 32 seconds, "Father Of Night" is Dylan's shortest song from a studio album.

In 1973, the song was covered and made a hit single by Manfred Mann's Earth Band (from the album "Solar Fire"), re-titled “Father Of Day, Father Of Night”.

Most cover versions kept the latter title (they’re mostly based on the Manfred Mann version arrangement), but I stuck to the original Dylan LP title for all versions here.

1. Bob Dylan - Father Of Night (1:28)
2. Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Father Of Night (9:52)
3. Jewels And Binoculars - Father Of Night (3:11)
4. Michel Montecrossa - Father Of Night (1:30)
5. Tim O'Brien - Father Of Night (2:40)
6. Julie Felix - Father Of Night (3:09)
7. Triggerfinger - Father Of Night (4:54)
8. Barón Rojo - Father Of Night (8:27)
9. The Wolves - Father Of Night (3:58)
10. Mick Rogers & The Cosmic Banditos - Father Of Night (9:28)
11. The Hit Co. - Father Of Night (3:16)
12. Chris Thompson - Father Of Night (4:48)

Various Artists – Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands – 20 Great Versions

A song written by Bob Dylan, it occupied the whole B-side of disc 2 of his double LP “Blonde On Blonde” in June 1966.

It was written for his then-wife Sara Lownds (see similarity of her name and the song title).

The song is sometimes spelled “Sad-Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands” but I kept the original title as on the LP for all versions here, with no hyphen between “sad” and “eyed”.

However, the song is spelled “Sad-Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands” on the lyrics page of Dylan’s official website at:

Dylan never performed the song in concert.
